Typical Trips

Typically we support several  service/learning/recreation projects each year.
This activity provides new friendships, fun, learning, and completed projects.
Painting, construction, cleaning, food services, repairing, V.B.S. aides, disaster relief, etc.

We work in our own neighborhood, with neighborhood kids, through Eastown Ministries Youth Center.

August 8 - 10, Saint Frances Xavier Church conducted a  34 student and 6 adult group outing.   They conducted Bible study and discussion under a new activity tent,  sports in a large clearing  among the beautiful trees near a large cross, swimming at Rose park and lake, and outdoor work near LeRoy Michigan.
The group included teenage members and some parent/leaders who could speak Spanish but not much English and many of us who could speak English but not much Spanish.

June 24 - June 26,  we spent three days doing free computer repairs for students who brought their computer to the African-American festival and Health Fair in downtown Grand Rapids.  While there we rebuilt several computers to give to students who would do 10 hours of community service to non-profit organizations of their choice.
While at the festival we displayed the motorhome that we use to support youth groups, giving tours to people who were interested in working with teenagers.

July 2 - July 7, an organized group of several families with teenagers and their teenage friends from Oakdale Park  Christian Reformed Church attended Cornerstone Christian Life Learning & Music Festival in Bushnell, Illinois.  We attended to give support and were able to include our daughter and grand children at this event.
Note:  For several years Oakdale organized a group of teenagers to attend this event but recently they have attended as families who also included teenagers who are not a part of their natural family.  This has strengthened the families and their teenager friends.

July 18 - 19,  Burton Heights Resurrection Life Church youth group (Spanish speaking)  held a migrant-camp evangelistic service, and conducted a clothing distribution. In the afternoon they swam and had a picnic at Grand Haven State Park.

July 5th - July 10th  Camp Tall Turf high school age group (Leaders in Training)
traveled to Cleveland, Ohio.
They helped the East Side Christian Reformed Church with their Summer Bible School, and painted on a half-way house in the City of Cleveland.
